Who We Are

Brett Quick, Principal

Brett brings 15 years of public policy experience – in both government and the private sector – to her work on behalf of clients. She has served in senior policy roles in both the U.S. House of Representatives and the U.S. Senate.  And following her government service, she has led successful strategic campaigns in government affairs roles for major trade associations and a large multinational corporation. Brett has deep experience navigating complex public policy initiatives and managing large policy coalitions.

  • Former head of U.S. policy and government affairs to leading digital assets trade association – The Crypto Council for Innovation

  • Served as co-head of government affairs to trade association representing the nations’ largest banks – Financial Services Forum

  • Worked at S&P Global Government Affairs & Public Policy, representing the company before the House, Senate, and the Administration

  • Staff Director to Senate Banking Committee’s National Security International Trade and Finance Subcommittee

  • Professional Staff to House Committee on Financial Services and Deputy Chief of Staff to the Chairman

Brett began her career in Washington with her home state representative, then-Chairman of the House Committee on Financial Services Spencer Bachus during the implementation of the Dodd-Frank Wall Street Reform and Consumer Protection Act. Upon Chairman Bachus’s retirement, Brett served as Legislative Director to Representative Stephen Fincher building on the Jumpstart Our Business Startups (JOBS) Act to increase capital formation and reduce regulatory burdens on companies’ access to public markets. She also worked with major domestic manufacturers on the reauthorization of the Export-Import Bank. Brett’s last stop on Capitol Hill was as the Staff Director to the Senate Banking Committee’s National Security International Trade and Finance subcommittee, where she worked closely with companies representing the full spectrum of the financial services industry – banks, insurance, housing, asset management, and alternative investments.

Brett got her private sector start in government affairs and public policy at S&P Global, coordinating efforts on 2017’s corporate tax reform. In that role, Brett spearheaded the firm’s engagement with Congress and the executive branch on the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act (“TCJA”) through informal coalitions advocating for lowering the corporate rate and preserving interest deductibility. Brett worked to prepare the firm’s CEO for testimony at a critical House Ways & Means Committee hearing on the importance of aligning the corporate tax rate with that of other OECD countries. She also coordinated advocacy for a large coalition of multinational exporters with a mutual objective of ensuring the fair tax treatment of U.S. exports, including intellectual property.

Following the passage of TCJA, Brett moved to the Financial Services Forum, managing government affairs for the association representing the CEOs of eight of the largest U.S. banks. At the Forum, Brett’s advocacy focused on two objectives: effectively illustrating the value proposition of large banks and corporations; and garnering support for appropriately calibrated capital requirements for U.S. banks. Brett was part of the core team that successfully coordinated strategy and engagement ahead of the first congressional testimony by GSIB CEOs since immediately following the financial crisis of 2008.

Prior to joining Phronesis DC, Brett led U.S. policy and government affairs for the Crypto Council for Innovation, Washington’s premier digital assets trade representing both new entrants and traditional financial companies and counting some of the largest and most sophisticated crypto companies as its members. From managing the industry through a moment of crisis in 2022 to leading the broad coalition in support of  the industry’s most substantial legislative achievement – the Financial Innovation and Technology for the 21st Century Act (FIT21)– Brett’s role at CCI positioned her at the forefront of all major developments in the crypto space. In addition to traditional advocacy and management, Brett also served as a spokesperson for CCI, working with reporters and appearing regularly in both print and televised media.

Brett did her undergraduate work at the University of Alabama, where she earned a Bachelor’s degree in Political Science and Telecommunication & Film.
